Our Services

Group Sessions

These sessions typically include 10-15 individuals that meet regularly to sing together. Songbooks with lyrics to well-known melodies are provided. Led by a music care specialist, group sessions aim to foster a sense of connection, improve communication and enhance overall wellness.

Individual Sessions

These regular sessions are held one to one with a music care specialist. Participants would have the opportunity to select from a variety of activities including musical meditation and creative songwriting. Individual sessions boost confidence, offer a wider range of flexibility to support the resident’s needs and provide a comfortable space for meaningful conversation.

 FAQs

  • No music experience is required. Your music care specialist will guide you through the activities and tailor them to ensure you feel comfortable and engaged.

  • It depends on your preferences and your comfort level interacting with others. Both types of sessions are extremely beneficial, but the type of activities within each vary:

    • Group settings may include more collaborative playing such as drum circles.

    • One to one settings would have more personalized musical meditations and song writing.

  • Any musical instruments or artistic materials including brushes, paint and colouring pencils will be provided. You do not have to bring anything to attend a session.

  • Songs for Strength has been working hard to partner with retirement facilities across Durham Region to offer accessible music support. If we have not reached out to your residence yet and you are interested in our services, feel free to contact us!
